5 styling tricks to create a beautiful spring tablescape

March 31, 2016

The decorations and design of your table sets the mood for your family, the meal and festivities to follow. Come spring, it's all about creating an atmosphere that reflects the warmer weather, the rebirth of nature and the bounty of fresh flowers, produce and plants. By inserting creative and meaningful details into each place setting, you'll end up with a beautiful spring tablescape made for Instagram. Follow these expert tips for hosting the prettiest spring bash ever.

1. Use both high and low elements

"This look is perfect for someone who wants to have a regional feel to their outdoor picnic – from the mason jar flower arrangements and votive candle holders, to the crisp white tablecloth with straws in the drinking glasses," says interior designer Robin Wilson. The juxtaposition between the tablecloth and the rest of the tablescape creates a fresh look.

2. Less can be more

"Mismatched plates, paper napkin pockets for utensils and wildflowers add a lot of style on a little budget," says Wilson. Plus, by using the serveware and the actual table as a part of the design itself, there's more than enough punch without too much crowding on the table with stuff you can't eat with friends.

3. Individualize place settings

Guests will feel particularly doted upon if you create unique place settings for each individual. You can keep the same color scheme, but trying using a different combination of plates, serveware and linens to create an eclectic, young vibe.

4. Blend together a bunch of textures

"A bistro table with a crisp tablecloth, natural fiber placemat, stem glassware, champagne on ice and tied napkin," says Wilson.

5. Use dessert, treats or favors as decor

You don't need to run out and buy a bevy of stuff for your next dinner party—instead, make everything multitask!
